The original painting of “Kirin and Bakeneko” is AVAILABLE and is currently hanging at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles – contact Sherri if you are interested –    [email protected] or call  (310) 287-2340 .  She’s an original acrylic painting on a 9×12″ panel, is beautifully framed (exterior measurement approximately 18×22″) and is priced at $3200.   The Corey Helford Gallery is located in Downtown Los Angeles, they are happy to ship worldwide, or you can drop by in person  at 571 S Anderson Street Los Angeles, CA 90033, they may also be able to work with you on payment installment programs.
This piece is for a group show at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles called “EAST/WEST”. The gallery works with a number of Asian artists as well as American artists, and this show is specifically meant to mix Eastern/Western traditions from various different perspectives. As many of you may know, I travel to Asia fairly frequently. I have some family who have originally come from Japan and we enjoy visiting there whenever we can. (Also I really dig Tokyo DisneySea, hehe, and always like a good excuse to go there!) Japan has such an exciting number of mythological animals – one of which is the Kirin (sort of dragony-unicorny-giraffe). I’ve included a Kirin in my painting here, wrapped around a shamisen (traditional Japanese instrument). My nephew is named “Fox Kirin” – so as kind of a familial nod, I am painting an Inari fox shrine in the background (it’s actually a specific shrine I have visited on multiple occasions.)  Another delightful mythical beast in Japanese folklore is the Bakeneko (monster cat, similar to a Nekomata or other Yokai – ish kitties!). For the most part, they tend to look like regular cats, but if you look closely they have two tails (or a forked tail, depending on who you ask, and depending on whether they’re being lumped in together wtih Nekomata).
Japan is full of cats, mostly in my own experience I see tailless or bob-tailed cats there, I haven’t seen a two-tailed one yet, but I always keep an eye out 😉

Glossy Photo Prints

All Glossy Photo Prints are printed on a glossy photo paper with Canon Lucia archival inks and signed ON THE BACK by ME, the artist. Small prints are printed on 8.5×11″ sheets and large prints on 13×19″ sheets, but the printed area will reflect the odd dimensions of the painting itself. When you select the print size and type that you want to purchase, the Printed Area Dimensions will appear below your selection. Please note the dimensions to make sure that the print you select is a size that will work for your needs. We cannot provide custom print sizes at this time. What you see offered is what is available.

Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Canvas Prints

Limited Edition Hand-Embellished canvas prints are as close as you can get to owning one of my original pieces. These prints are made on canvas with Canon Lucia archival inks. They are hand-embellished with additional details by ME, the artist, in acrylic paints. Each print is unique! All prints are signed and numbered (on the front and back), stretched over a frame and shipped ready-to-hang. The canvas sides are printed in black, creating a natural self-framing effect, so you don’t have to purchase an additional frame if you don’t want to. The entire piece is also painted with a UV varnish and then heat set for maximum protection and longevity. They are truly beautiful pieces and it is often difficult to tell them apart from the originals. Once all 25 Limited Edition Canvases have been sold, no more will be made, so get them while you can!
