"The Sick Rose" - this is another one of the paintings I did for my first gallery show - Alchemy Unleashed! The original painting itself sold there at the show, but luckily I scanned her in and have prints, etc. available.
And no - people kept asking me at the show - this is NOT airbrushed. It is painted by hand, the old-fashioned way with a normal brush (which takes a lot longer, hehe).
"The Sick Rose" is inspired by the 1794 William Blake poem of the same title (from one of his illuminated books, no stranger to Alchemy himself).
"O Rose thou art sick.
The invisible worm,
That flies in the night
In the howling storm:
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy."
I however have interpreted with a slightly sweeter tone! These fine art fairy prints are made from my own original acrylic painting. Open Edition prints are on glossy photo paper and measurements include a white mounting border. The 8.5"x11" size has a printed area of about 8"x10", and the 13"x19" size has a printed area around 12"x16". Canvas prints are Hand Embellished, measure about 11"x14" and are limited to an edition of 25. The copyright watermark does not appear in the actual print! See below for detail images.
